We Offer Fast, Professional

  Clipper Blade Sharpening

We use the Professional Treyco Blade Sharpening Machine with Hollow Ground Sharpening Disc. Most blades are hollow ground from the manufacturer, and most manufacturers recommend their blades be hollow ground when dull. Hollow ground sharpening produces superior results, sharper blades and longer blade life.

We hand-lap our blades on the disc, instead of using mechanical arms, which gives us the "feel" of the blade. We check progress of the blade being sharpened periodically, until we feel the blade is ready. This assures us that we don't take off any more metal than absolutely necessary. Most blades can take up to 10 sharpenings before being considered used up.

Blades sent for sharpening will be sharpened, cleaned, oiled, aligned & tested to cut hair/fur. Blade sets are placed in individual plastic bags for shipping.

Damaged blades sometimes have teeth that crook down, which can potentially damage our sharpening disc. We therefore reserve the right to refuse to sharpen any blade we feel might result in damage to our expensive equipment.

Return Policy

We urge customers to try out blades we've sharpened within 30 days of receipt. In the unlikely event a blade we sharpened refuses to cut, please notify us by email at flanderscreek@aol.com within 30 days from the time we shipped it back. We do not give refunds. We will gladly examine and resharpen the dull blade at no charge if it's included with another shipment of blades to be sharpened. Simply include a note with the shipment that a particular blade refused to cut, and be sure to mark the blade in some way so we know which blade wouldn't cut.

Sharpening Prices

Large animal blade sets

5 or more sets, $5.50 per set

We Sharpen Most Blade Types

Detachable blades (Oster Models A5, A2, 76, 111, 96, Home, Progienic, Lucky Dog, etc. Also Andis, Wahl, Laube, Groomer's Choice, etc. There are many brands of detachable blades on the market today which we sharpen. If in doubt, feel free to email us.

Ceramic blades - these are generally detachable blades. While we can sharpen the metal combs, the ceramic cutter (top blade) cannot be sharpened. Even the manufacturers of ceramic blades currently have no method of sharpening ceramic cutters. These blade sets are viewed as blade sets, not single combs, since both must be cleaned, adjusted and tested as a unit.

Fixed blades -  Oster, Andis, Wahl, etc. These blades are usually held onto the clipper with screws. Many pet and human hair clippers are sold with fixed blades.

Adjustable blades - Oster, Andis, Wahl, etc. These blades are usually held on the clipper with screws. A lever allows the blades to adjust from close to coarse cutting. Unless you feel comfortable aligning this type of blade set back onto your clipper, we suggest sending the entire clipper with blades attached. We will sharpen the blades and re-attach them for you. Please include a note indicating the clippers were included for blade adjustment purposes only, and not sent for servicing if you don't wish them serviced.

Large Blade Sets - Clipmaster, Shearmaster, Lister, etc.

Please note - We do not sharpen "Disposable" blades. These blades are fixed together usually with a plastic casing, and are far too fragile for sharpening. The clipper's manufacturer does not intend for these blades to be sharpened; instead, they sell replacement blade sets. Examples of clippers with "disposable" blades are the Wahl Arco SE and the Wahl Peanut.

PLEASE NOTE - An additional charge of $.50 per blade set will be charged for badly rusted/neglected blades. A small amount of rust will not incur the charge. However, if the blades are rusted 50% or more, the charge will be assessed. Badly rusted blades take additional time to put on the buffing wheel to take off the rust, and are sometimes extremely difficult to take apart. Badly neglected blades can take up to twice as long to sharpen as well-maintained blades. If blades are so badly rusted that they are impossible to dismantle, they will be sent back to the owner as is, and no sharpening charge will be assessed.

Shipping

Please send clipper blades to us via the US Postal System. We only ship through the USPS, since there isn't a UPS or FedEx office in our community.

Insurance is optional but very highly recommended. We suggest insuring your equipment not for what you believe it to be worth, but for its replacement cost should it be lost or damaged. We will not be held responsible for shipments lost or damaged in the mail. If you want your shipment insured, the cost of the insurance must be included with the cost of return postage.

Should a customer choose not to purchase insurance for return shipping, we will place delivery confirmation on shipments at the customer's expense and added to the invoice. If a shipment has neither insurance nor delivery confirmation numbers, there is no way of tracking a shipment should it be lost within the postal system. USPS delivery confirmation is currently $.75. We will email the customer with the insurance or delivery confirmation number when the parcel is shipped.

General Information

Please don't wait until you're pressed with an upcoming show, fair or sale to send blades for sharpening. Although our turn around time is extremely fast when compared to many others, sharpening does take time. Many times we will have several batches of blades to sharpen and, since we use the "first come, first served" rule, other blade orders may be ahead of yours.

Total shipping time can take several days - shipping to us and back to the customer. Please keep this in mind and have a realistic idea as to how long it will be until you have your blades back in your possession.

We try to keep extra A5 cutters on hand, as well as blade screws, sockets, blade guides and tension springs. If your small blade set is missing one or more of these items, or if the item is damaged, we will replace them at our replacement cost.

Shipping Tips

Please package your blades carefully (no duct tape please) using plenty of padding such as bubble wrap, peanuts or crumpled newspapers, and pack the box tightly so nothing rattles around.

The use of USPS Tyrex mailers or cardboard envelopes for blades is discouraged, since blades may still poke through as the mailer is repeatedly handled. If using padded mailing envelopes, please go ahead and wrap blades to keep them from bumping together, possibly chipping teeth.
Please do not place any kind of tape directly on the blades.
